HOW PIXIE GOT PUNK’D
TJ and I have been writing music together for what seems like an eternity, but in reality, since 2019. We knew each other online first (we were in this songwriter/artist group), and were eventually invited to a songwriter’s retreat in Costa Rica. I was so excited to finally meet TJ in person. I heard some of his songs through the group and thought he was such a genius (he is). The genius missed his flight and made me wait a couple more hours, but when we met, I knew instantly that we would work together for a very long time.
If you haven’t followed us for long, you probably aren’t aware of the extensive history of music he and I have created both together and apart (shout out if you’re an OG who remembers songs like “Roses & Champagne,” or “Tonight”.) Guys, the dude is a genius, like I said. Meeting TJ was like meeting a guy version of myself. I guess I’m calling myself a genius…haha. Whatever, we’ll go with it.
I wish I had a Time Machine so I could go back and get to know him again. It sounded something like, “You’ve written HOW many songs?” “Wait, me too.” “Dude, that’s the best thing I’ve ever heard.” “Let’s write another one.” “You wrote this when you were thirteen??”
It was like 2 kids on Christmas morning, and Christmas came every day. We were obsessed. Writing together for 12 hours straight, no food, no breaks, like a couple of adhd pre-teens playing video games (I can use that analogy, we’re in the gang).
Anyways. So, it was magic is what I’m trying to tell you. And we hope you feel that magic when you listen.
Never in a million years did I think that this Texas girl would ever enjoy spending so much time with someone from New York (no offense New Yorkers). I was always told New Yorkers were mean. Mean is an interesting word. I’m gonna replace that with “real.” New Yorkers are REAL. And TJ was real and made me feel like I could be too.
He was me, I was him. The music came together like it was waiting to be written. And it was fun, and never stopped being fun.
The music we make is a blend of new and old, TJ and Lynzi. PIXIEPUNK. It’s New York meets Texas. Fire meets water. We don’t really know what “genre” we are, but we sure do like it.
Maybe someday we’ll release an entire album of songs he and I wrote back when we were teenagers. When I listen to his old stuff, I think “what the hell were they feeding him back then?” “How did a 14 year old kid have this much life experience?” I’m serious. I’m tooting a horn here on behalf of TJ. He is brilliant, and always has been.
Me? I wrote songs in my closet. They were my secret, and I didn’t quite know at the time how magical they were. I’d love to share some with you if you’re ever interested in hearing what we were writing when we were lil babies.
This is a good stopping point for now, because I did say I’d keep this short. I might have lied a little, but if you’re still reading, I’m sure you’ll forgive me. I want to extend the most genuine, sincere welcome to you. Welcome to our family. Welcome to our little slice of music paradise. We are so grateful you are here, and want to be here. It makes us feel completely wild inside that there are people in the world who love to listen to our art. That’s insane. We talk about you guys all day. We read your comments and messages out loud to each other.
We’re curious what makes you feel connected to PIXIEPUNK? Are there any songs of ours that stick out to you personally? We’d love to hear how you first heard of us. Or anything, really. Where are you from? What’s your fav food? Idk. I just want to start a conversation
This world is so saturated with small talk and surface level stuff. Would love to really get to know you.
Lynzi (and TJ, in spirit!)
